Reduced data inefficiences

Challenge

As Kaiser Permanente’s Medicare and Medicaid programs expanded across states, so did the complexity of managing data, meeting reporting deadlines, and keeping technology aligned with fast-evolving business needs.

With over 12 million members and 200,000+ employees, KP needed more than just technical upgrades—they needed a strategic partner to bring structure, speed, and scale across their data and reporting landscape.

Solution

Mokxa partnered with KP across their Medicare, Medicaid, and National Health Plan programs. We worked across technical and business layers—driving efforts in data architecture, business intelligence, program leadership, and regulatory reporting.

From the ground up, we worked hand-in-hand with KP teams to roll out data and BI solutions that could scale. Along the way, we helped modernize legacy systems, improve data governance, and ensure long-term success through continuous support.

Outcome

Mokxa’s deep domain expertise enabled the successful rollout of business solutions across multiple states and business units. Our leadership helped launch KP’s Social Health Practice virtual training program in record time, addressing social care gaps through digital enablement.

  • Medicaid VA: Architected and delivered various reports, dashboards, and regulatory submissions—managing $4M in program value.

  • Medicaid MD: Led the build of a full reporting platform with 200 reports and 10 dashboards—managing $3M over 7 years.

  • Medicare Advantage: Remediated 250 reports that enable seamless transition from Medicaid to Medicare reporting.

  • We also delivered pharmacy data marts, compliance reporting, and patient engagement tools—on time and at scale.

Full Story

Context

Kaiser Permanente’s commitment to expanding access to quality care through its Medicaid and Medicare programs required more than operational scale.

As KP deepened its role as a Managed Care Organization (MCO) in multiple states, it faced growing complexity in data governance, regulatory compliance, reporting, and digital engagement with members.

To overcome these challenges, KP engaged Mokxa as a strategic partner to align business goals with technical capabilities across its National and Regional portfolios. Our engagement began with Medicaid in Virginia and Maryland, and quickly evolved into a multi-year, multi-stream partnership across Medicare Advantage, population health programs, and operational modernization.

Solution

Mokxa brought a mix of strategic consulting, architecture, and delivery expertise.

We helped KP build a future-ready business intelligence ecosystem—rolling out modern data marts, regulatory dashboards, and analytics platforms that aligned with both technical and operational goals.

Our teams collaborated with KP’s cross-functional stakeholders, leading delivery, integration, and modernization efforts across Medicare, Medicaid, and National health lines.

Whether optimizing Medicaid data pipelines, replacing legacy platforms, or enabling risk and quality reporting,  Mokxa operated as an extension of KP’s internal teams—aligned in purpose, delivery, and impact.

Outcome

Together with KP, we delivered real impact at scale.

With Mokxa's support, KP deployed robust Medicaid and Medicare reporting platforms faster and more efficiently—rolling out 400+ business-critical reports and dashboards across regions. These insights empowered better care delivery, operational visibility, and regulatory compliance.

From the ground up, we helped launch and scale programs like Medicaid VA and MD, managing over $7M in project revenue and driving long-term success with hybrid teams of internal and external contributors.

From BI modernization to social care enablement, Mokxa helped KP unlock operational agility, compliance readiness, and data-powered decision-making.

Most importantly, our partnership contributed to KP’s larger mission: delivering connected, equitable healthcare. By closing technology gaps and creating systems of insight, we helped KP deliver smarter, more equitable health outcomes to millions of members—laying the foundation for what’s next in value-based care.
